Biography for Rob Neilly - Radio Host and Writer
Following a few years of working at any ordinary job that would come along, or for employers he didn’t care for (or ones that didn’t invest in him), Rob decided to seriously change-up his career path. He paid for some basic training in using computer applications, completed a program in communications studies, and completed his training in radio-TV broadcasting.
After years of refining and honing what he liked to do most, Rob focused on two tandem career paths: executive administration, and teaching. The beginnings of his teaching career came about while he was presenting computer seminars across Canada, by way of his landing a position as a part-time faculty member (in continuing education) for one of the country’s largest community colleges. Simultaneously, he concentrated his administrative employment career by progressively moving from working for temporary office firms, to working as an administrative assistant, to finally—before leaving Corporate Canada—to working as a senior executive assistant for several different employers.
Rob formed his first business—one of web development—right after taking an exhaustive program to become a webmaster. Forming his first business was lead to another one, and became an important turning point in his career, when he decided to train to become a virtual assistant. In 2006 he completed that training, allowed his web development business to slowly fade into the background, and beginning his new virtual assistance practice. This is a business he maintains to this day, with a focus on writing (whether copywriting, ghost writing, or working in the social media field). It was his focus on writing that led Rob to connect with Cassandra Stein of the Small Business Success Network.
In addition to being a past alumni member of AssistU (the organization that trained him to become a virtual assistant), Rob recently became a VAinsider for VAnetworking, is a member of several Facebook-driven virtual assistant groups, just signed on to a VA Mastermind group, and continues his membership with the Canadian Virtual Assistant Network (CVAC). Rob is listed by Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology as a member of their List of Experts in the field of Office Administration.
A native Torontonian, Rob lives in Toronto, Canada with his wife Elizabeth, and their two cats (Cleo and Teshat). In addition to counting technology and computers as a “hobby”, Rob enjoys reading, many kinds of movies, networking with friends and colleagues, and has always had a keen interest in ancient Egyptian philosophy.
